We Saw your Boobs!

Jim, Charlie, Doug…it seems the biggest boobs on screen are men.

I like Seth McFarlane. He’s multi and mega talented. I especially like his voice work. As an ad writer, I’ve hired a lot of talented voice-overs for my radio spots, but none compare to him. I also like Family Guy. It’s brilliant and juvenile. I’ve been known to watch marathons of it. I like Celine Dion too so, if you’re going to judge me on anything, I’d start there.

So what did I think of his “We saw your boobs” song?

Well, first, it was accurate. We did see the boobs of all those women doing their “jobs”. Imagine an industry where serious actors at the caliber of Meryl Streep are expected to go naked. So, in truth, was he being insulting to women or to the industry as a whole?

Second, I think that skit was more offensive to men than women. He singled out fabulously accomplished actors and strikingly intelligent movies, and did a skit that represented the kind of men that TV audiences  – those watching the Oscars – see all the time.

Let’s face it, do you think Jim Belushi’s character on “According to Jim” and Charlie Sheen’s character on Anger Management would be more interested in big screen genius than boobs?

So, while I see why some women might be offended, of which I’m not one, I don’t get why men aren’t offended. After all, this skit just reminds us that biggest boobs on screen are men (okay, fine, with the exception of Coco).

That’s why this blog celebrates the real men we love, as well as those boobs we tolerate on TV.

Smart men are sexy.

According to this article in The Telegraph, men with higher IQs also have higher sperm counts. Though I do think intelligence is sexy, I can’t imagine swooning over sperm counts, but I’m open. I mean, I’ve swooned over more dubious things like Iggy Pop.

That being said, I conducted an informal pole on my Facebook page and learned that men with the following traits are more likely to “get the girl” than the boobs we see on TV:

Brains, humor, snarky sense of humor, self-confidence, compassion, gallantry – not to mention nice and nice lips, nice eyes, nice big strong man hands, nice dark hair and nice hairy chests.

No one said they liked boobs, oafs, dolts or any male resembling the sophomoric characters inhabiting the small screen.

Boobs in ads.

Move over King of Queens, I landed on what is, for me, one truly juicy blog. It’s about how dumbed down men are depicted in commercials – for an online dating profile writer and an ad writer, could life get any better?

I get that political correctness has made it difficult to write entertaining ads. I’ve had to come up with funny ads myself and I know the challenges. However, that’s what being a creative person is about. Our talent is in circumventing obstacles and delivering messages in unexpected ways. So, frankly, I wish my ilk would try a little harder to come up with campaigns that don’t make fools of anyone.

A boob in ads.

Okay so, technically, this ad isn’t about a guy who’s a boob, but it is a guy who looks like a boob – Brad Pitt doing a perfume commercial. We’ve all seen it, but it’s worth another look.

 On a final note

Men, women, dating and advertising are a lot of fun to write about. However, I do take looking for love a lot more seriously. Finding the right one can be the most rewarding experience of your life. So, if you’re dating online and you need help crafting your profile so that it gets you noticed, then allow me. As an ad writer and online dating profile writer, I have a unique mix of skills and I love using my talents to put a positive spin on people.

Have a look at my online dating profile samples and see for yourself.

Better yet, get started by completing my personality questionnaire and then send your answers to me. You’ll be amazed at what I can do with them.
