Yeah, time for Valentine’s Day ads and online dating tips!

I’m both a copywriter and an online dating profile writer. So it should come as no surprise that Valentine’s Day is one of my year’s favorites.  Is it the flowers? Not really. The chocolates? They’re okay but… Is it the love? Well, with the exception of gnats like Howard Stern, who doesn’t love love?

Still, what really makes Valentine’s Day attractive are all best and worst ads (always the copywriter).

Here are some of my favorites and least favorites. Since, you’re stuck reading my opinions throughout, do feel free to share your own.

HEINEKEN

heineken_valentineI really like this one. Though I’m a writer, I’m a big proponent of conceptual ads that quickly send a simple message. This one does it so well.

On the other hand, Heineken also has this really creative campaign. That said, while I love the fact that the company did a great job of tying in social media and I do like many aspects of it, I find it a bit complicated. It lost me after a few of the cards.

THRIFTY

thriftyAnother really good ad. It’s fun and conceptual while being very true to Thrifty’s consistent brand message which is value.

When it comes to writing online dating profiles and LinkedIn profiles, it’s important to promote a few key messages rather than try to accomplish too much. Ads like this are proof that focusing on a message makes it stronger.

DUREX

happy-fathers-day-durexA charming way to slam your competition. That said, I’ve seen a lot of singles dating online try this and fail.

Companies can do it. But, when people try, it can be cocky.  Instead, be unique. What’s great about this ad is that, while everyone is saying Happy Valentine’s Day, it’s saying Happy Father’s Day. See? Different but appropriate.

TAMPAX

happy-valentines

I really dislike this ad. It’s crass and insulting to women – the very group this product is supposed to attract. Seriously? Romance dies the minute a woman has her period?

What you can learn from this ad is to use humor cautiously, especially the kind of humor you think will appeal to the opposite sex. Instead, be warm, playful and careful.

Let my ad expertise help you too!

Clearly I’m the kind of writer who likes a subtle approach and that’s the approach I take to writing dating profiles. There’s nothing overtly hard sell, the profiles I write on behalf of my clients are gently persuasive, engaging and full of charm.

And, by the way, everyone has charm. It’s just a matter of asking the right questions to uncover a person’s best traits and stories, which is what I do. After that, I craft a dating profile that uses your answers, anecdotes and even expressions so that the dating profile ends up being true to you.

Have a look at my samples or get the process started by completing the questionnaire and sending your answers to me. I have just the right services to accommodate you from a phone consultation where I can give you suggestions on how to improve your existing profile to a full rewrite with photo selection.

So get started!
