How to write a better online dating profile. LA Singles Edition.

Thus far this week, I’ve posted two excerpts from online dating profiles that I’ve read on dating sites catering to LA singles.

I’ve then critiqued the excerpts and offered profile writing tips based on my experience as an ad writer and marketing expert (you can check out my bio here).

This third excerpt is the last one from LA. Next week, I’ll move on to California in general then I’ll expand to each State.

In the meantime, I hope the following critique gives you some insight. The excerpt is from the dating profile of a single female in her 30’s:

Guys PLEASE don’t send “Hi, wanna chat?” emails! I IGNORE THEM. Now then, I like late nights and I’m looking for a guy who’s like me. My last relationship was with an early-bird and it didn’t work!

First, she starts the profile with a stipulation and one that’s in caps. Right away this isn’t welcoming. It’s both aggressive and unnecessary. If a man makes no effort to write a decent email, then ignore it. It’s that simple. There’s no need to put conditions on your dating profile. This is where you’re supposed to sound attractive, not demanding.

Also, this excerpt was taken from the very opener of her online dating profile. That means she immediately went into her sleeping patterns, which is boring enough to put someone to sleep.

Remember that openers are the most important part of your online dating profile. If you don’t engage your reader right away, you’ll lose them. Certainly if you start your profile on a negative and demanding note, you’ll turn good guys off.

Lastly, if her big priority is that you be a night owl, then I have to question how deep she is.
