Online dating profiles. The critique for Wed. Nov. 6, 2013

Today, however, I took the whole profile and changed two adjectives.

Why? Because the profile was only one activity and two adjectives long. Here goes:

Excerpt from the dating profile of a 42-year old man:

I like to golf and I’m friendly and easy going.

My critique

As you can probably guess, my first critique is that this profile is not even close to being long enough. A good profile is concise, always, but not this concise. I always suggest approximately 250 words. In fact, that’s an industry standard when you’re writing for websites.

I also suggest that you set up your copy in blocks of “thoughts”. So, make a new paragraph every time you move onto a different subject. That way, your profile looks airy and more inviting to read than dense blocks of copy.

Not that this man needs to worry about that!

Another critique is that being friendly and easy going is not enough. It can be among your qualities but it shouldn’t be the only ones you showcase.

A final note about writing your online dating profile.

It’s not easy to describe yourself. I understand that. However, when you choose to go online dating then you need to work within those parameters. Otherwise, don’t online date.

Better yet, if you can’t find the words, let me. I ask a lot of questions and then I use all your words and anecdotes to create a profile that is true you. I also combine solid marketing techniques with good writing so that it makes you stand out.

Check out my online dating profile samples and see for yourself. Better yet, get started by completing the personality questionnaire and then submit your answers to me. You’ll be amazed at what I can do with them.
