Why more singles dating online need Botox (could you be next?).

imagesBecause I write this dating blog, I read a lot of online dating profiles. Doing so helps me identify topics of interest. Over time though, I’ve begun to notice a familiar pattern that occurs on my forehead. It’s the brow furrow.

It happens often.

It occurs to me that, if I get it, then singles dating online – who read countless online dating profiles and often at one sitting – must be getting it too. So what’s the solution? Three treatments come to mind:

1) Botox

2) Quit online dating

3) Create better online dating profiles

Thankfully, I can help with the third. I’ll start by presenting some common causes of brow furrow created by women, followed by those created by men. I’ll also offer suggestions on how to correct the problem.

Top 3 online dating profile mistakes women make and how to correct them.

 1) The group shot

A lot of women surround themselves with group shots. There are two reasons why this is a big online dating mistake.

For one, if most of your photos are of you and your friends then it can be really difficult to figure out which one you are. After all, not only are you lost among the others, group shots usually aren’t clear in the small space of online dating photos.

The second reason why this is a bad idea is because a suitor might actually find himself attracted to one of your friends.

I think it’s a great idea to take a shot or two of yourself with your friends, but make sure that most of your photos, and especially your main online dating profile picture is clearly of you.

2) The rant

I cannot tell you how many women seem to go on rants on their dating profiles. It’s surprising. It’s also a turn off.  Think of how you’d feel if you innocently clicked on an attractive man’s photo only to have him lambaste you for being a jerk, a perv, a loser, a game player, not to mention fat and unemployed.

It’s terrible how some women talk to men online.

If you don’t want wrong guys then simply don’t attract them. If you keep being hit on by pervs, losers and jerks then it’s not them, it’s you. So fix that first before you demand changes from complete strangers.

3) The overtly sexual presentation

A lot of women put their cleavage out there as bait and then, once they reel a man in, they make clear that they want a serious relationship.

I have no problem at all with women flaunting their sexuality if they’re looking to hook up. In that case, provocative photos are completely appropriate.

However, if you want a guy who isn’t just looking for a one night stand then your photos have to deliver the right message.

My suggestion is to dress as attractively as you can. Show some cleavage. Show off your legs. Show off whatever your best physical features are. However, do it in moderation.

As they say, pictures tell a story. So if you want yours to be a fairly tale romance then don’t present “50 Shades of Grey”.

By the way, it’s easy to lose objectivity when you’re trying to compete online. So let me help. Whether it’s through a phone consultation or one of my profile writing services, my subtle marketing techniques provide a powerful advantage.

The top 3 online dating profile mistakes men make and how to correct them.

1) Photos of you in an undershirt and ball cap.

A lot of men go online and feeling a little awkward about putting themselves out there. The beauty pageant role isn’t one that men readily identify with. As such, many go online resisting the position they’re putting themselves in and, in turn, end up doing the opposite of what they should.

My suggestion is this: if you aren’t really comfortable with a glamour shot, then take a casual one that nevertheless shows effort. Dress in a way that’s informal, but really well put together. After all, you’re in a competitive environment. So compete by giving it your all.

2) Photos of you with other women.

Having a couple of group shots with both male and female friends is fine. However, I’ve actually seen a number of shots of men surrounded by women. I saw a man flanked by two Hooters waitresses once. I also saw a shot of man in a hot tub with three women.

I never understood this and it caused many a furrow. Finally, one day, a man proclaimed that the best way to be attracted to women is to show how attractive you are to other women.

Bad, bad play.

Showing pictures of yourself with women all over you just makes you look like a player. It does nothing but elicit distrust.

3) Having nothing interesting to say.

Again, perhaps because men aren’t as adept at presentation as women, they seem to struggle with selling themselves. They write very little, and very little of interest, in their profiles. They also rely too much on emails that have nothing more to say than “Hi”.

Online dating is competitive. I cannot stress this enough. It’s like any other competitive environment – if you don’t try, you’ll fail (of course).

So fill out your dating profile. If you can’t think of what to say then begin by taking my personality questionnaire. It’ll help you find unique anecdotes and traits that can be added to your profile.

Better yet, hire me for a phone consultation or for one of my online dating profile writing services.

Question for men and women.
