A blushing bride at 55! Online dating works.

I’m an ad writer and marketing expert who uses her skills to craft great online dating profiles  (check out my dating profile examples and see). I also write a blog – usually. Over the next six weeks, I’ll be posting guest blogs by “CB” instead. CB is a lady who, after many years online,  found her soulmate.  She’ll be sharing her love story with us.

Poster child for brides in their 50s by “CB”

Next year, just past my 56th birthday, I’ll be walking down the aisle.

For the first time.

JGS and I met online. But while we made up our minds quickly about our future, it was a long journey to find him.

The reaction has been overwhelming — after all, we’re just two middle-aged people getting married. Still, it seems the world loves a love story.  Many women applaud, saying “you’re proving there’s hope for us all.” Hope. Hmm. I’m a little uncomfortable with that phrasing, implying some very lovely women are “hopeless.” I prefer to say “there’s a new chapter to be written for all of us.”

So, as designated poster-child for the over-50 bride, I’ll share a few chapters, of how this came to be. I hope my experience will help those of you hoping to write your own new chapter. And have a few laughs and tears along the way.

I’ve reached this point after more than a few years online and several beaus. The plural is important, because until the Internet, I was the career woman who “dated once a decade.” Boy, the popularity factor CAN jump if you’re willing to work a bit, be a bit adventurous, and yes, be prepared for some heartbreak.

Still, JGS is the perfect man for ME. Maybe not for someone else.

But that’s just one lesson learned during the adventure of online dating.

Another lesson I feel I must share before getting to the story: Be VERY aware of what point you’ve reached in menopause. This can affect libido in ways you don’t expect and lead to behaviour you’d never dreamed of (for example, if you’re not quite there yet, you’ll be randier than a teenager, as the old eggs scream out for their one last chance!).

So, be careful! And keep your sense of humor.

This story DOES have a happy ending.

Thank you for the guest post! Though I already know the story, I never get tired of it. Can’t wait for next week’s installment.

In the meantime, for those of you looking for love online, here are some important facts and tips about online dating:

Many factors affect online dating success. Those out of our control include everything from who’s online when you are to the ratio of men and women in your area, to how long you and/or others have been looking (our expectations change over time).

There are also factors within our control. These include our photos and our online dating profiles. But, you need to maximize them.

As a writer and marketing expert, I know how to increase your chances of success by writing a dating profile that gets attention and keeps it. The first step is to fill in my online personality quiz. Sounds like a gimmick, right? It’s not. It’s actually an ingenious tool designed to help me uncover your most interesting traits,  anecdotes – even quirks. From there I pick the best ones then place them in key spots throughout your dating profile. Better still, because I’m using all your words and information, the profile ends up sounding exactly like you.

So let’s take your inbox from empty to full of promise. Start the quiz!

Still now sure? Then see how to write a great online dating profile by checking out my  my dating profile samples.
