I was roller-blading the other day with a girlfriend of mine when a young hot gorgeous male in his 30’s skated by without a shirt on. As such, an athletic 50-year old man can be hot for his age, but he won’t have the same pure, breakthtakingly outstanding, jaw dropping, pheromone excreting, physical hotness worthy of endless worship that an athletic man half his age will have.

So if you’re a middle-aged male who’s online dating and you have your searches rigidly set for younger women then be prepared for the fact that you’ve set yourself up for some serious competition. You can write, “fit, athletic and young at heart”, but that’s about as effective as saying “chocolatey goodness”.  It’s just not like the real thing.

My point isn’t to discourage you from going after younger women. My point is to encourage you to consider your competitive environment. Successful brands are discerning about where they place their ads and who they’ll be up against. For your own success, I encourage you to do the same. If you’re in an environment where your dating profile comes up among those of men half your age then you need to leverage something better than your fit body and youthful spirit because yours does not compare to theirs. Instead, celebrate the benefits of being a mature male, but for goodness sakes, please do it without being creepy.

Better still, keep in mind that successful brands also know the value of “niche” marketing. In simple terms this means being a big fish in a small pond. If you’re a well-kept, middle-aged man then you’re probably the big fish compared to your demographic. That’s why you might find better luck going after women your own age.

Whoever you choose to target and whoever happens to be your competition you’ll need to do more than leverage your looks. All singles dating online need to really compete in order to stand out.
