Online dating profiles that say I have an unnatural attachment to my Harley.

When I was 2 years old, I dropped a pair of glasses into a sewer to see if they could float. That they couldn’t infuriated my mother and puzzled me. This was the first in a long history of confusion.

For instance, I’m bewildered by the popularity of Kate plus Eight. I wouldn’t even grasp the popularity of Brad Pitt plus Eight (or 100…oh come on, we all know that’s where it’s going). Certain Black Eyed Peas lyrics are baffling (not to mention simplistic). Math is confounding. I confess that when I chatted with a woman who had been born a male and was now a lesbian, I found that confusing too because it seemed like circuitous route to the same result.

Nevertheless on a scale from one to ten…actually, forget that. On any kind of measure, men confuse me greatly and often. This is especially true when I scan the dating profiles of single men dating online. I find myself with many questions. Today, I’ll just focus on one: why do so many men have pictures of their motorcycles posted on their online dating profile?

I mean, it’s one thing to have a picture of yourself with your dog. The attachment is understandable and even a little disarming. It’s fine to have a picture of yourself with your friends, your team mates, even your your Mom…actually, I don’t think a Mom photo is okay but I digress.

The fact is, while there’s nothing wrong with having a picture of yourself on your motorcycle, to have solitary pictures of your motorcycle is a little odd. Worse still are pictures of your bike at various angles.

If you love riding, then do make that passion clear in a photo. In doing so, you’ll catch the eye of women who like bikes and bikers. Smart advertisers know to add “cues” that appeal to your “target group” – lingo for your ideal match. For instance, you rarely see a clothing ad that only displays the clothes. Usually they’re draped on hot looking models. That’s an eye-catching cue for sure. So, if you’re trying to catch the eye of a woman who’ll love both you and your bike – then feature it, but don’t feature it all by itself and shot at several angles.

This is yet one more reason why you should hire a professional ad writer (me!) to write your online dating profile.

Seriously guys, go easy on the Easy Rider. That’s some kind of unnatural attachment, don’t you think?

There are so many “I’d rather ride my bike than you” jokes I can make yet, out of a sense of propriety I won’t…but still…
